Mark Spencer, Member of Parliament for Sherwood has welcomed the announcement from the Government, that the A614 improvements have received £24 million in funding.
In a letter to Mr Spencer, Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport recognised the need for the improvements saying that “the improvement of six junctions is designed to deal with increasing traffic volumes which are causing congestion and worsening journey time reliability for all users.”
Mr Shapps also recognised the strong support for the scheme that Mr Spencer has provided.
Speaking about the latest development, Mr Spencer said:
“This is a culmination of many years of work for myself and others. It is right that the A614 is finally getting the attention it deserves. Our local businesses stand to benefit from this huge investment in our local area.
“I want to thank Nottinghamshire County Council for their hard work and assistance.
“I look forward to seeing shovels going into the ground in the near future. In the meantime, I will continue to work with Nottinghamshire County Council to ensure that the scheme is a success.
“The Government are well aware of the need to improve our local infrastructure in Sherwood, and I am grateful to them for their support.
“Getting the money for the scheme is the biggest hurdle. The Council will now be able to seek out the relevant permissions before we get shovels in the ground in the near future."
