Mark Spencer, Member of Parliament for Sherwood has released this statement following Channel Four’s investigation into maternity services in Nottinghamshire.
“The report from Channel Four is obviously very concerning. I have been contacted by constituents regarding this issue in the past, and I have made representations to the Department for Health and Social Care, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) about the quality of care that has been experienced by expectant mothers.
“I have been assured that the CCG are making the necessary improvements to ensure that such failures are not repeated.
“I want to be clear, such failures cannot be tolerated. I will be writing to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid MP to inform him of the concerns I have previously raised.
“I know that the Department takes this matter extremely seriously. We owe it to the parents who have been failed by the maternity services to get this right. No parent should have to go through what they experienced.
“I urge any other constituents who feel like they have been failed by the maternity services to get in contact.”
